Get rebates, grants and interest-free loans for home improvements and upgrades

It has never been a better time to make your home energy efficient by taking advantage of rebates from Efficiency Manitoba and grants and interest-free loans from the Canada Greener Homes Initiative

Efficiency Manitoba Rebates

  • If you’re planning an extensive home renovation that will significantly reduce your home’s energy usage, your project could qualify for rebates through our Home Energy Retrofit program.

Each home is unique, so you’ll need to have an EnerGuide home evaluation completed by an energy advisor. They’ll identify energy saving opportunities that are suitable for your home, and you’ll receive a recommended upgrade report to help plan your major retrofit and achieve substantial energy savings.

  • This program applies to you if..

    • You are a homeowner with a limited income and are interested in energy efficiency upgrades.

    • Are a home renter with a limited income.

    • Are a landlord and are interested in increasing your property value and reducing your tenant’s energy consumption.

    • Rent an apartment suite and are interested in energy efficiency upgrades that will help you save money and energy.

  • Efficiency Manitoba has partnered with the Manitoba Métis Federation to help lower energy bills for income qualifying Manitobans.

  • Efficiency Manitoba partners with your community to help everyone save money and energy. Upgrades are free and their First Nation Energy Advisor works with you to create a plan that works for everyone, then local community members are hired to execute it.

Home Energy Evaluation

Before you begin your renovation, book an Energuide evaluation with a local service organization to be eligible for rebate, grant, and interest-free loan programs to help improve the comfort, safety, and security of your home in four easy steps:

Ensure you meet the criteria and apply for your Energuide evaluation. A service organization will send a registered energy advisor to your home, measuring its energy efficiency.

1

Your Registered Energy Advisor will give you a list of eligible renovations. Select which works best with your budget and renovation plans. Once you have received quotes, this is when you can apply for the optional Greener Homes Loan.

2

Renovate your home! Complete all of your eligible renovations, ensuring that all upgrades meet the grant and rebate criteria.

3

Once all eligible renovations are complete, request a post-retrofit Energuide evaluation where your Registered Energy Advisor will assess the new efficiency of your home and collect information needed to receive your rebates and grants.

4

After your post-retrofit evaluation, your Registered Energy Advisor will be able to see how much more efficient your home is. Submit your final document and your grants will be on the way.

Q&As

  • A Registered Energy Advisor is an expert in home energy efficiency and building science who helps homeowners make informed decisions about energy upgrades and retrofits. Energy Advisors are registered by Natural Resources Canada to deliver the Energuide Rating system evaluation on existing and new homes.

The Energuide evaluation conducted by the energy advisor is required for homeowners to access many of the provincial and federal grants, rebates, and loans for home energy efficiency.

  • A service Organization is licensed with Natural Resources Canada to deliver labelling initiatives such as the Energuide Rating System. Service organizations work with builders and homeowners to assess the energy performance and potential savings in homes through improved energy efficiency measures. Homeowners looking to get an Energuide Evaluation to access available grants, rebates, and loans will work with a service organization to schedule an Energy Advisor to assess their home.

You can find a list of local service organizations here.

  • Both Grants and Rebates are terms used interchangeably to describe money that will be retroactively received by the homeowner once the eligible upgrades are complete and all necessary documentation has been received by Efficiency manitoba and/or the Greener Homes Initiative.

The Greener Homes Loan is an up to $40,000 interest-free loan paid over 10 years. The amount received by the homeowner will depend on the upgrade(s) they are completing.

  • Contact Efficiency Manitoba or The Greener Homes Initiative directly for more info on their respective programs.
